Recently, an overseas customer contacted us and said that he bought a new Bitmain D7 mining machine online, and encountered the problem of unstable hasd-rate. He wanted to ask if we could help him troubleshoot the problem. We thought it was a small issue that would be resolved soon, so we agreed.
After remote debugging of this machine, the results were unexpected. The network of this machine was normal, and all the indicators were fine after booting, but after running for a few hours, the hash-rate of the machine suddenly dropped. We checked the run log and found nothing unusual.
So while we continued remote debugging, we also contacted the professional maintenance technicians at the maintenance sites we cooperated with. After more than a week, we finally found that the problem is probably due to the power supply. Because the voltage load at the customer is just at a critical point, it seems that the machine is running fine, but due to various reasons, the grid load increases and the machine's power supply drops, and the machine's hash-rate suddenly drops.
Fortunately, the customer did not suffer greater losses, because the unstable voltage may cause damage to the machine's hash board. So after this case, let's talk about how to choose the power supply of the mining machine.
A professional ASIC mining machine is very valuable. If the power supply of the mining machine is not selected correctly, it will directly lead to lower income and affect the service life of the mining machine. So, what are the things that miners must know about the information related to the power supply of the mining machine?
1. The installation environment of the power supply is within 0°C~50°C. It is best to ensure no dust and good air circulation → prolong the service life of the power supply and improve the stability of the power supply output. The higher the power supply stability, the smaller the loss to the mining machine. .
2. When powering on the miner, first connect the power output terminal to the miner, make sure the power is off, and finally connect the AC input cable → it is forbidden to connect and disconnect the output terminal when the power is turned on, excessive DC current The resulting arc can damage the DC output terminals and even cause a fire hazard.
3. Please confirm the following information before plugging in:
A. Whether the power strip can carry the miner's rated power → If the power consumption of the miner is more than 2000W, please do not use the household power strip. Usually the household power strip is designed for low-power electronic products, and its circuit connection adopts soldering method. When the load is too high, it will cause the solder to melt, resulting in a short circuit and a fire. Therefore, for high-power miners, please choose a PDU power strip. The PDU power strip adopts the physical nut method to connect the circuit, when the line passes through a large current, it will not be melted, so it will be safer.
B. Whether the local grid voltage can meet the voltage requirements of the power supply → If the voltage exceeds the voltage requirements, the power supply will be burned, please purchase a voltage converter, and input a voltage that meets the power supply requirements through the voltage converter. If the voltage is too low, the power supply will not supply enough power to the load, which will affect the daily income.
C. Whether the power line can carry the current required for the lowest power consumption. If the miner's current is 16A, and the upper limit that the power line can carry is lower than 16A, there is a risk of the power line being burned.
D. Whether the output voltage and current of the power supply can meet the needs of the product with full load → the rated output power of the power supply is lower than machine needs, which will cause the hash-rate of the mining machine to fail to meet the standard, which will ultimately affect the income of the miners. (Usually the maximum power of the power supply is 2 times the load is the best configuration)
